Murkowski Breaks ATF Confirmation Filibuster

U. S. Senator Lisa Murkowski turned out to be the deciding vote on the confirmation of the new head of The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

A roll call on ending delaying tactics against the president’s nominee, B. Todd Jones, went well over 90-minute yesterday.

Senate Democrats were waiting for North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp to rerun to the capital and cast a vote to move ahead.

That’s when lawmakers from both sides of the isle surrounded Murkowski on the senate floor, and Murkowski switched and voted to end the republican delays against Jones.

Murkowski voted with the minority on the final 53-42 confirmation vote.
