The President’s State of the Union address is set for tonight,and two members of the U.S. Senate are continuing to push to have members of Congress break party lines, at least for one night. Republican U.S Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Democrat U.S. Senator Mark Udall of Colorado have written a letter to House and Senate leadership encouraging support for what they call a small but meaningful gesture…

Sen. Murkowski(R-AK): “Any small step we can take to show a little togetherness, the fact that this is an opportunity for us to show as lawmakers to demonstrate that we can be civil with one another, we can show respect for the institution, show respect for other lawmakers. It’s a small small small gesture, but I think that every step that we can take to help improve relationships is a good thing.”

This is the third year in a row the two have called on party leaders to embrace this bipartisan practice.
