Although recently reelected, Soldotna Mayor Nels Anderson had made it clear he plans to leave his position in 2016 for an African mission.

With the recent outbreak of Ebola in Africa, Anderson said his plans to travel with the LDS church and cover health of missionaries in five different countries are a bit more up in the air now.

Mayor Anderson: “There have been people in three of those countries, three out of the five I was covering that they pulled a lot of people out because of the Ebola and we don’t know what’s going to happen whether that’s going to be a major epidemic, I mean it is now but I mean a major one where you have a million people infected instead of ten thousand.”

He detailed the process of electing a new mayor for Soldotna if his Africa trip goes on.

Mayor Anderson: “There is basically 60 days after the resignation that people have to apply and then they have an election in 60 days after the resignation.”

Anderson said his trip is planned for February of 2016.
