Soldotna’s city council has an open seat after municipal elections were certified at Wednesday’s meeting and Councillor Pete Sprague will be sworn in as the city’s new Mayor on November 10.
City Clerk Shellie Saner detailed how interested people can apply for the vacant seat F.
“Packets will be available on the city website to apply for the Seat F vacancy, or they can be picked up here at 8:00 am at city hall. The filing deadline is November 2 and interviews by the council will be held during the Tuesday, November 10 meeting.”
Council members each thanked current Mayor Nels Anderson for his leadership efforts in Soldotna and gifted him a special personalized street sign that reads “Dr. Anderson Pl.”
Anderson offered a bit of advice to the council, based on the fact that other Kenai Peninsula communities were able to decide on the non-prepared food tax initiative which mainly affects Soldotna.
Mayor Anderson: The people who are here have the best interests of the city at heart and they’ll do very well in terms of what’s right for the people. I did mention to them and encourage them
He says there are only about 80 days before he leaves for a mission trip in Africa and he should probably begin preparing for that.
