Kasilof fisherman Roland Maw was appointed by Governor Bill Walker to the Board of Fisheries after board chairman Karl Johnstone resigned yesterday.
Walker reportedly contacted Johnstone to let him know he would not keep his position on the board after his term expires in June 2015 after which Johnstone submitted his resignation.
The resignation is effective as of January 27 and if approved by the legislature, Maw’s term will last until 2018 and he will be the first Cook Inlet commerical fisherman to hold a seat on the Board of Fisheries since 1980.
