Earlier this afternoon, 33-year-old Mark Massera of Soldotna plead guilty to spray painting multiple Old Town Kenai properties last summer.
After his change of plea to the Class A misdemeanor, Massera’s defender requested 180 days of jail with 160 suspended, and instead of those 20 remaining days in jail, community service.
A judge will decide October 14 if that sentence is justified but either way Massera said he felt relieved.
He also added that he appreciates community members who doubt his apology to the Kenai City Council last night and his will to stay out of trouble.
Massera: “I hope that there’s people in the community that want to help hold me accountable for what I’ve said, that I’m not just some person who came in and said what everyone wants to hear so I can skate free. That’s really not the case but I know that people don’t know me and if they read me from paper, they might not like me but the thing is that I am trying and I know that myself and all that I can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and do the right thing from here on today and be better to the community, be an asset instead of a liability.
As a sign of good faith, Massera’s already committed his entire PFD to that debt, which he expects to be substantially more.
The state prosecutor is still calculating the amount of damages done to the properties.
