The Kenai City Council will discuss a number of topics relating to marijuana during their Wednesday meeting.

Mayor Pat Porter has scheduled an ordinance for introduction to place a limited moratorium on marijuana establishments or businesses in the city.

Mayor Porter: “Until the state regulations are in place, because they are illegal, but we need to be able to enforce that. We don’t have an ordinance currently.”

Council will also discuss the direction the Planning and Zoning Commission should take in drafting code relating to where Marijuana establishments and businesses may operate.

Those codes would affect businesses or establishments engaged in the sale, cultivation, manufacturing, or consumption of marijuana once commercial marijuana is permitted.

That meeting will begin at 7 pm Wednesday, July 15, in the Kenai City Hall.
