Local Runners Ready For State Championships

The 2013 ASAA State Cross Country Running Championships are set for Saturday, October 5th on the Bartlett High School Trails; and will feature both the girls and boys returning 4A state champions from 2012–Kenai’s Allie Ostrander and Kodiak’s Levi Thomet.

4A State Preview

In the girls 4A division, Ostrander looks to repeat as girls champion in the 5-kilometer event having posted a second-straight undefeated race season.  Ostrander ran an 18:46 on the Bartlett trails in 2012 and has bettered that time in every 5K race this season.

The SoHi girls will also compete for finishes in the top-15 and for a top five team finish lead by Olivia Hutchings, Dani McCormick, Sadie Fox and Daisy Nelson.

In the boys division, Thomet, from Kodiak, looks for his second cross country individual title.  Kenai’s Jonah and Jordan Theisen will attempt to break into the state’s top-10, and push the Kardinals into the top group in the team scoring.

 1-2-3A State Preview

The Grace Christian School is favored for both the girls and boys team titles.  From the central peninsula, Skyview’s Micah Hilbish, 6th in 2012, looks to again finish in the top-10 at the state championships.  The Homer girls, lead by Region III 3A champion Megan Ptizman, will battle for a top finish in the team scoring, after finishing second in 2012.
