The local jobless rate dropped by nearly half a percent for February, and is also higher than the statewide rate.
The State Department of Labor and Workforce Development say the February unemployment rate for the Kenai Peninsula Borough stood at 9.1 percent. That compares to 9.6 percent in January, and is lower than last February when the unemployment rate stood at 10.6 percent.
The number of people without jobs on the Kenai Peninsula Borough dropped by 128 jobs between January and February; and the local workforce grew by 112 jobs for the same period.
In February, state economists say that a total 26,525 were employed in the local area, compared to 26,413 in the previous month.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February is 6.5 percent; slightly lower than January’s rate of 6.7 percent also lower than the 7.1 unemployment percent rate from February 2012.
