Olson Steps Down as AIP Candidate

9/7/2010

The man selected by the Alaskan Independence Party to be the party’s candidate for Lieutenant Governor in November has chosen not to run.  Norm Olson was selected as the party’s candidate, last week.  He backed out over the weekend.

AIP leaders say they’re sticking with the party’s candidate for governor, Don Wright, over Bill Walker.  Walker was leaving all options open last week for a third party run.  He had even approached the AIP to be a possible gubernatorial candidate.  Walker finished in second place behind Governor Sean Parnell in the August 24th primary.

Previously, AIP officials had been told that Wright was going to step down.  He told party leaders Saturday that he had no intention of stepping aside.
