Sandra Sterling is one of almost two dozen local artists who have submitted an idea for the new community mural. Sterling explained her thoughts on the project…
Sterling: “Being a long-time resident here and having watched the evolution of the community, I realized that because I participated in the community, things were important to me: nature, wildlife, historical buildings in the community, the people that come to the community that also support us, are all major factors that contribute to what makes us what we are.”
Sterling said she used the requisite fire weed flower to form the basis of a map of the Kenai, with various aspects of local culture stretching out like petals.
The show is open at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center Tues-Sat from 9am to 6pm. Starting Memorial Weekend, the Center will be open daily from 9am to 7pm.
Voting started May 4 and wraps up June 14.
