Local Again Charged with Theft, Tampering

A young man previously charged with felony theft of a snowmachine was arrested again on March 23 for theft.

 

On Sunday Alaska State Troopers contacted 18 year-old Austin Hibbert of Soldotna while investigating the report of the theft of some items and cash from the Arctic Cat shop off of K-Beach which happened on March 22.

 

Hibbert was charged with burglary 2nd degree, theft 2nd degree, and tampering with physical evidence.

 

He was arrested and transported to Wildwood pre-trial without bail.

 

Previously on December 9, 2014, the State Trooper Patrol Division, Criminal Suppression Detail, and the Southcentral Drug Enforcement Unit contacted Hibbert. They found him in possession of a 2015 Polaris Assault 800 that was reported stolen from Peninsula Powersports on October 27, 2014.

 

After an investigation, Hibbert was arrested on multiple charges, including: Vehicle Theft 1st degree, Theft 2nd degree, Removal of Identification Marks, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, and Criminal Trespass 1st degree.

 

That case was closed on February 27.
