KPBSD: Still Waiting for Reply from Unions in Recent Proposal

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and Unions representing the local teachers and support staff held a collective bargaining session late last week. We got an update on the talks from Pegge Erkeneff with the KPBSD


Erkeneff: “At this point, we met last week, and the district is awaiting a reply on a last best offer that we’re waiting for reply from KPEA and KPESA,  we’ve not heard back from them.”


We also asked if the district’s proposal changed


Erkeneff: “There were changes to the district’s proposal, one of the concerns was about setting the employee contribution rate for their monthly healthcare. And the district put in the new offer, that the associations could use a formula of their choice for determine that amount for employees.”


We also asked if there were changes to the proposed health care committee


Erkeneff: “With the new proposal put forward, or offer put forward, the health care committee would be comprised of 4 KPEA members, 3 KPEAS members, 1 KPAA members, and three members of the superintendent’s choosing. There was also some language that was included that he associations didn’t like that would be added to that, three of those points were removed, one being the superintendent’s veto of any changes, as well as, the complete structure change of how the health care cost amount is a new piece for the offer. ”
