The Kenai Peninsula Borough is continuing their project of consolidating solid waste services. One major part of the plan, was to change from a landfill to a transfer site in the City of Homer. We got an update on the project from Borough Mayor Mike Navarre…

KPB Mayor Navarre: “Well, we’re in the middle of transitioning over to an operator of the facility, it’s a transfer site now, not a landfill, although, there will be some construction debris material that can be deposited at the transfer site in Homer. The rest, all the municipal and solid waste stuff will be transferred up to the station in Soldotna.

Navarre said that the process has been fairly smooth

KPB Mayor Navarre: “It saves the borough considerable dollars and so it was really the right way to go, the responsible way to go.”

Mayor Navarre did express his appreciation for the borough employees who’d worked at the Homer landfill.
