KPB Monitoring Skilak Glacier Dam Releases

The Kenai Peninsula Borough office of Emergency Management has been monitoring releases from the Skilak Glacier Dam, and say flooding is unlikely at this stage.

Director Scott Walden said last night’s data indicated the Kenai River won’t reach flood stage downstream  in the Kenai Keys area. NOAA officials said that based on current volume estimates and comparisons to the 2011 event event, flooding wasn’t expected, though there was still some uncertainty about how the dam would release.

They expect to know more some time today.
