The local jobless rate grew by two-tenths of a percent last month, and is slightly higher than the statewide rate.
The State Department of Labor and Workforce Development say the September unemployment rate for the Kenai Peninsula Borough stood at 7.6 percent. That compares to 7.4 percent in June, and is lower than last September when the unemployment rate stood at 8.1 percent.
The number of people without jobs on the Kenai Peninsula Borough dropped by 11 jobs between August and September and the local workforce has shrunk by 1,222 jobs as well.
Last month, state economists say that a total 27,492 were employed in the local area, compared to 28,714 in August.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September is 7.5 percent, lower than August’s revised rate of 7.7 percent and lower than the 7.6 percent rate from August of 2011.
Nationally, the unemployment dropped slightly to 7.8 percent
