Kodiak Plane Crash

Kodiak Plane Crash 3-15-2010

At approximately 12:43 p.m. on March 15, 2010, Alaska State Troopers in Kodiak were notified of a plane crash just past the runway at the Kodiak airport. It appears that the plane collided with the top-portion of the trees at the end of the runway. The pilot made it out of the plane, but because the plane was stuck vertical in the trees, rescuers had to stabilize it to get the passengers out, DOT officials said.

State Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters says three people were aboard the plane, the pilot Jason Lobo, 37 of Kodiak exited the craft on his own and both passengers Zora Inga, age 33 and Martin Inga, age 38 of Old Harbor had to be extracted.  All 3 were taken to Providence Kodiak island medical center. The extent of their injuries is not known.

The plane went down approximately 50 yards off Rezanoff Drive, the road that runs perpendicular to the runway. Investigation continues into the cause of the incident.  The plane is a Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander, Alaska State Troopers said. A tail number provided by troopers indicates the plane is owned by Paklook Air and operated by Servant Air, which moves passengers and freight between Anchorage and Kodiak.
