Ummmm no, If I ever had breastfed or had an infant latched to my breast you'd probably be offended and there's a good chance I'd be prosecuted. So, I personally have never breast fed, but I've swapped out the radiator hoses on the pickup a few times, and I'd assume it is about the same difficulty.

"Opinions on situations such as these are to be neutral so as not to offend listeners"-
WHAT!?!? - It was on a rock station not CSPAN. Rock DJs have made a living out of offending people.

Alright Robert.... have you ever breastfed? Ever feel a latch of an infant at your breast? Are you married or have you known anyone who has breast fed their child? Talk to them and read them this conversation and see how they react....

Common people, this DJ is a Public Representative.... opinions on situations such as these are to be neutral so as to not offend listeners... CARDINAL RULE

The choice on whether or not to breastfeed a toddler, should not be influenced by Bryan or any other Rock DJ for that matter. If you ARE getting your parenting advice from an Afternoon Disk Jockey, you probably shouldn't have had kids in the first place.

Also, who the heck gives their 4 year old formula? Why is there even an argument of Breast Milk VS Formula when we're talking about 4-6 year olds.

Sounds to me like "SCIENCE" has given these women a very convient excuse to not let go of their "babies".

I'm with AKButterfly on this one.

I agree with everyone else when it comes to the blatant disregard or respect towards women who choose to feed & nourish their children, the amount of dedication it takes to nurse a child AT ALL! Including after the age of one & too also Stand up to society when they choose to express their opinions against it even those whom do not have children. We live in a rural community, it is a very REAL situation that one day the barges might be shut down and our food resources could be limited - Breastmilk SAVES LIVES EVERYDAY. It might not be apart of your everyday Mr. Bryan Stanton, but little do you know how many families with infants/children grow to be strong important members of our community after being nursed or had donor milk supplied up to them and some over the age of one. Apology is in order not only to the breastfeeding mothers within our community but to your mother as well if you were nursed and to your future wife when you are blessed with children of your own and finally have a first hand experience of the amount of effort & support that is needed to be successful in today's society, you live in a community with allot of breastfeeding advocates. Show a little respect. If you feel the need to share your thoughts base it off of fact vs. opinion.

I was shocked when I heard Bryan go on and on how if a child is old enough to "reach for it" then it is time to wean! This is a insult to all those mothers that struggle so hard to give their child the best nutrition for them. Where we live nursing past infancy is not the norm and looked down on. This is unfourtunate because so many people in the US are overweight and nursing decreases the chances of obesity. So many people are stuggling to make ends meet and formula is expensive. Even with WIC it is expensive. Nursing past 1 even raises IQ!
Women who choose to nurse for however long should be supported! If you can not say something positive (and there is TONS of positive in nursing) then do not say anything, because when you do you could discourage a child from getting a fair chance. I would like a apology for speaking out of ignorance. Thank you!

As a father of 3, 2 of which were breastfed, I have been able to see the advantages of breastfeeding versus bottlefeeding. I have to say there is no comparison. If your circumstances allow I would say it is your family's duty to breastfeed and to do so as long as you see fit. The fact of the matter is there is no disadvantage to breastfeeding your kid way past 2 years of age, whereas the advantages are numerous. I don't blame any single person for this but as a public voice your station has the responsibility either remain neutral or present both sides to such matters. Understandably hes was just trying to be funny but with the scorning demeanor of the remark, an appology would be appropriate. Thanks for letting me ramble.

Hmmm... butterfly..... Have you ever breastfed? Some of us are not able to have the luxury of pumping- it doesn’t work for everyone…. So alas we need to do it the ‘old fashioned’ way. Your exactly right- breastfeeding and deciding when to stop is personal choice. But as for some dj making jokes and comments about what others choose to do, that is Rude and uncalled for! I wouldn’t make fun of someone who is different just because they don’t conform to my standards – and neither should you or this DJ. Research the benefits of breast milk and be aware of the helpful health properties that it contains….. then you will understand why we do the things we do..

AKButterfly, the reason why toddlers are encouraged to wean from the bottle onto a cup is because prolonged use of the bottle can lead to malocclusions and may hinder the formation of strong jaw muscles.
Breastfeeding on the other hand, promotes proper jaw/palate development which benefits the child by resulting in a reduced need for orthodontics as well as prevention of other issues such as snoring and sleep apnea.

Making comments about a families breastfeeding choices discourages new parents from ever giving nursing a fair shot! Around the world 3-4 years of age is the NORM, it is our society that says otherwise. At a time when our country is having major issues with weight and health, it is imperative that we offer unconditional support for breastfeeding, regardless of whether it is for a 6 day old baby or a 6 year old child.

Its a personal choice when to stop breastfeeding. However, I have to say that I have seen 3 and 4-year-olds who are still on the breast asking their moms for it. Children the same age as "Blossom's" child. In my opinion, if your child is old enough to drink from a cup they should be doing so. Breast milk can be pumped into a cup just as well as sipped from the source.

We wean our children off bottle and breast as they move forward in their development. Drinking from a cup like a big boy or girl is part of that.
