The Kenai and Soldotna Chambers of Commerce are encouraging residents to get out and get involved in the roadside clean up.

January Yeager with with Soldotna Chamber had some tips on how you can help.

Yeager: “Us and the Kenai Chamber are promoting roadside cleanup just to get everything kind of beautiful once the snow melts and all that trash starts being visible again. Those yellow bags we have those from the borough so people can come by and pick those up and do some cleanup throughout their neighborhoods and the main streets and all that good stuff.”

The Kenai River Spring Cleanup week runs May 11-17, The Kenai River Professional Guide Association is taking over 250 kids from 8 different classes out to cleanup the river on May 16 and there will be a community weigh in May 17th from 11am to 2pm.

Yeager: “New this year is actually a river cleanup and they’re going to do cleanup along the river banks and things like that and then they’re going to do kind of a fun gathering on may 17th for everyone to bring in their trash and have it weighed and things like that.”

Yeager said the roadside pick up has already started to see great success.

Yeager: “So far we’ve had probably over 500 bags picked up, I know I haven’t seen 500 along the roadside but people are doing it all over the area and a lot of people are waiting until the first of May to get that going.”
