The Soldotna Stars scored the game-winning goal mid-way through the third period of Tuesday’s North Star Conference hockey game against the Kenai Kardinals; downing the Kardinals 3-2.
Kevin Stone scored the winning goal at 7:01 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie. The Stars built a 2-0 lead with a late first-period goal by Max Hegge and an early second-period goal off the stick of Dalton Pearson. Down 2-0, the Kards rallied with second-period goals by TJ Wagooner and Zach Mese.
A rare no-penalty game provided for an outstanding conference game. Both teams are off until January. SoHi improves to 4-1 in the NSC; KCHS stands at 1-3-1 in conference play.
