The Kenai Municipal Park located off of South Forest was approved to receive upgrades in equipment earlier this February by Kenai City Council.

Parks and Recreation Liaison Terry Bookey said the administration have received back a couple of proposals from playground manufacturers.

Bookey: “Well they set a work session to discuss the other proposals and other ideas that might come forward for this but it looks like we’re pretty much coming in to the final stretches of being able to get that approved and constructed.”

Bookey said that just the proposed equipment designed for 2-5 year olds will cost around $30,000 – $40,000.

Bookey: “That’s kind of the way Council wanted to do it this time is look at it based on the amount of playground equipment versus the total cost because that can be deceiving to the public. Ya know if you say oh we’re going to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars, the public and sometimes even some of us at council aren’t thinking about the fact that that includes all the engineering that goes into it as well as site preparations and things like that.”

The Parks and Rec Commission would like to see the upgrades done this summer.
