Kenai Has Bluff Stabilization Money In Capital Budget

5/5/2010

Kenai City Manager Rick Koch says there is a small amount of funding for the city’s Bluff Stabilization Project in this year’s proposed Capital Budget by the State Legislature.  Koch said that $250,000 was put into it, this year, when it was in the House of Representatives.  The money was placed in the Capital Budget by Representative Kurt Olson of Soldotna.  This money is still subject to approval by Governor Sean Parnell.  Koch said the city still needs more money to fully fund any local requirement for the project.

He said the city would continue to ask for more money from the federal government to help with the local effort necessary.  We also asked Koch if he has learned anything new about critical habitat for the Cook Inlet Beluga Whale, and, the impact that could have on any future bluff stabilization.
