As Kenai prepared for another year of crowds at the beach for dipnetting, the Kenai Fire Department is one of several city departments that has been preparing for another year. Kenai Fire Chief Mike Tilly says they have new equipment for better access to the beach.

He said there have also been upgrades made to the department’s emergency boat. In the past, the access issue has cuased problems for emergency responders.

Another tool used by the department is a boat for emergencies within the river.
