A major part of last night’s Kenai City Council meeting was a presentation by Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage on the proposed storage project near Bridge Access Road. Richard Gentges is the Project Manager for the facility. He explained how the facility would operate and its size.

Gentges told the council that the size of the project’s footprint would include seven-acres for the compressor station and another seven or eight acres for the well pad area. The well pad area will be on the west side of Bridge Access Road, with a pipeline traveling underground to the compressor station on the east side of the road. Finally, the storage field boundary actually is underground and consists of an area that goes below the Kenai River. The project will impact one-half acre of wetland, and, according to Gentges, will be avoiding neighborhoods.
The permitting process involves state and federal agencies, including the EPA. The project will create 150 to 200 jobs during construction. Only two to three jobs would be created for the operation of the storage.
