Kenai Considering New Park

5/28/10

The Kenai Parks and Recreation Commission held a work session on Thursday at the Kenai City Hall to discuss ideas for a proposal to construct a new park on Marathon Road near the new Wal-Mart Supercenter.  Parks and Recreation Director Bob Frates said about ten people from the public participated in the meeting.  Some of the ideas being suggested for this park included:  a dog training area, wintertime activities that would include ice skating on the existing pond, waterpark activities for the summer months, construction of a dock on the pond and more trails on the seven and a half acre property.  The pond covers three and a half acres.  The ideas will now be considered by the Parks and Recreation Commission.  Recommendations would be sent to the city administration with consideration by the Kenai City Council.  Any final plan for a park would require approval from the council.
