Kenai is another step closer to clear drinking water. This week, the council unanimously approved an agreement with HDL, LLC that would pay the professional engineering and architectural services for the construction of a water treatment facility. The work would include design over the winter months with the project scheduled for the construction bid process in the spring of next year. The total cost of the contract is over $452,000. City Manager Rick Koch said this would eliminate the brown water in Kenai.

HDL has been working with the city to locate a new water supply that is low in arsenic levels and doesn’t have issues with color. In the past, the water with the brown tint has been the only water found in Kenai with low arsenic levels.
