Kenai Bed Tax Opt-Out Explained

Kenai City Manager Rick Koch appeared on KSRM’s Soundoff this morning, addressing callers about various topics.

One question addressed Kenai’s bed tax opt out to which Koch explained:

Koch: “The only way we can opt out is if the tax goes directly to the city, I don’t think that we can opt out to where it doesn’t get collected at all, the borough would not collect the 4% bed tax in the event that the city of Kenai or another incorporated municipality collected the 4% on their own, if the city of Kenai didn’t collect the bed tax the borough would still collect a 4%, if I understand the way the legislation is written.”
