Kards Sink Mariners 5-3 In NSC Hockey

The Kenai Kardinals improved their North Star Conference record to 3-1 on Tuesday night, downing the Homer Mariners at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex 5-3.

Ross Hanson recorded a three-goal, hat trick for Kenai scoring the Kardinals final two goals on the night.

Following a scoreless first period, Kenai and Homer traded goals in the second period with Jake Eubank scoring just :14 seconds into the second.  Hanson, TJ Wagoner ad Hanson goals lead to a 4-2 Kenai lead after two periods.  In the third period following a Mariner goal to close to 4-3, Hanson’s final goal lead to a 5-3 Kardinal victory.  Homer goalie Markian Poushkin recorded 33 saves; Kenai’s Nate O’Lena stopped 24 of 27 Mariner shots.

 

Later this week on Friday and Saturday, Kenai and SoHi will host Bartlett and West in non-conference games at SRSC.
