The 2014 Nikiski Class Races, featuring races classified by gender and year in school, were contested on Monday, August 18 on the Nikiski Community Trails. The first high school cross country running event held on the central peninsula trails.
Experience and seniority won-out at the Nikiski Class Races in both the girls and boys races with the top distance runners providing top performances.
The Kardinals boys won the Junior-Senior race lead by Jonah Theisen, who battled Kodiak’s Levi Fried and Kenai’s Jordan Theisen. The Kardinal boys placed five runners in the top nine positions.
The Homer girls raced to the girls Junior-Senior team title, showing strength in both divisions on the girls side. Kenai’s Allie Ostrander posted the fastest time for the Nikiski course, followed by SoHi’s Oliva Hutchings. Homer placed three runners in the top seven and added four top-10 runners in the Freshman-Sophomore division.
