Kardinal Hockey Scores Overtime Win Over Homer

The final week of the regular season for high school hockey opened on Tuesday, January 28 at the Homer Ice Rink, with the Kenai Kardinals downing the Homer Mariners 6-5 in overtime in North Star Conference action.

Kenai 6 – Homer 5 OT

An overtime goal by Ross Hansen pushed the Kardinals past the Homer Mariners; after Kenai allowed Homer three, third period goals to tie a contest that appeared to be well-in-hand for the Kardinals.  Kenai lead 5-2 entering the final period on the strength of three, second period goals; two by Jake Eubank and a goal for Mike Tilley. The Kardinals lead 2-1 after one period on goals by Eubank and Kyle Olsen.

For the game, Jake Eubank scored a three-goal hat trick.

 

The Kardinals stand at 5-4 in the NSC; Soldotna also owns a 5-4 regular season record.  Kenai and SoHi will close the regular season on Saturday, February 1st at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex with a 4:15 p.m. game time.  The winner of the game will earn the #3 seed into the North Star Conference tournament, which is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, February 6-8 at the Homer Ice Rink.
