Joe Balash to Succeed Dan Sullivan in DNR Top Job

Joe Balash has officially been named the acting commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources after former Commissioner Dan Sullivan’s resignation took effect this week.

There is speculation Sullivan is considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Mark Begich. Lt. Governor Mead Treadwell has already declared his campaign for the seat, as have fellow Republicans Joe Miller, John Jaramillo and Kathleen Tonn.

The Commissioner has said little about his future plans, only that he will “explore new opportunities and challenges in the next phase of my life” and intends to “seek ways to continue to serve [Alaskans].”
