The jobless rate for the Kenai Peninsula dropped during the month of June, as the summer continues. The rate for the month of June, before being seasonally adjusted, stood at 8.8 percent. That compares to a rate of 9.3 percent in May. One year ago, the rate stood at 9.2 for June.
The Kenai Peninsula continues to have the highest jobless rate in south-central Alaska. Anchorage stood at 6.9 percent in June. The Mat-Su Borough stood at 8.5 percent. Statewide, before being seasonally adjusted, the state rate stood at 7.7 percent, down one-tenth of a point from May. One year ago, the rate was 8.1 percent.
The Department of Labor says construction, seafood processing, and hospitality experienced the greatest gains in seasonal employment.
