Think About It…… January 29, 2014
Are you tired of government intrusion into your personal life? Add general apathy to this intrusion and we may well have lost our Republic to socialism.
However, we just cannot give up on our Country, Alaska, our children and their futures. That’s why the Alaska Policy Forum is so important as they continue to hold elected officials accountable. These elected officials work for us. Alaska is in for some tough times financially – just like the Federal government. But unlike the Fed’s, Alaska can’t print money.
Just how much has the government grown in the past year? Look at Obamacare and its effects. Nearly 5,000 Alaskans have lost their insurance thanks to the federal government. You surely don’t want government telling you how much health care you need, while they get all they want. You surely don’t want these same bureaucrats telling you which schools your children and grand-children must attend, while they sent their kids to private school to get a real education. Have you noticed that this happens as all levels of government – bureaucrats know what is good for you, but certainly not good for them. Meanwhile, we lose more freedoms every day.
The Alaska Policy Forum is fighting the battle for freedom and liberty. This past year they strongly opposed government overreach into regulating private property by the Anchorage Municipality. Why is it that government thinks it has the right to tell private property owners what they can do with their property. It reminds one of our own Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly who literally stole the use of all private property adjacent to a salmon stream. What right did they have to do that?
The Forum testified to legislators on education reform including charter school reform, 3rd grade literacy requirements, grading of schools and a constitutional amendment to allow parents to choose the best education for their children. The Alaska Policy Forum is the only organization fighting for parents and the kids. All the others are public education unions. They are fighting to keep power and control over our most precious-possessions-our children.
The Forum continues to inform Alaskans about the need for education reform. Most Alaskans don’t know that Alaska ranks dead last in fourth grade reading in national tests. How can that be when we spend more on each child that any other state in the union. It just doesn’t make sense. Something is terribly wrong with our public education monopoly and we need to fix it. It certainly will not be fixed by the public education industry.
The Alaska Public Forum continues to work for all of us, making sure our elected officials “walk the walk” and stick to proven conservative values.
