Van Meter & McKenna First to Nome To Claim 2013 Iron Dog Race

Dusty Van Meter and Mark McKenna claimed their second-straight Iron Dog championship on Saturday, the first team to finish in Fairbanks for the 2013 Alaska National Guard Iron Dog Snowmachine Race.  The lead team crossed the finish line in Fairbanks at 12:38.41 Saturday afternoon, with a total elapsed time of 36 hours, 58 minutes, 54 seconds; averaging 57.22 miles per hour over the 2000 mile course from Big Lake to Nome to Fairbanks.


The team of Van Meter and McKenna was the fastest team into Nome on total time, have been awarded the $10,000 halfway prize.
