Early this morning, firefighters from Central Emergency Services and the Kenai Fire Department were called to a chimney fire at a local residence. The home, located at 44190 Big Eddy Road, received an estimated $30,000 in damage. It is valued at $150,000.
CES said the first arriving units to the blaze arrived within five minutes. Flames were showing from the chimney area. Smoke was visible from the attic. CES said crews used water and foam to fight the fire. It was under control within 40 minutes. It was reported out after two hours. The home is owned by Mike Alvey. CES said everyone inside the single-story structure was able to evacuate the residence without being injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The origin of the fire, according to CES, was in the fireplace assembly. It spread to the attic and had burned through the insulation and roof structures.
