Hospital Auxiliary Changes Scholarships Guidelines

The Central Peninsula Hospital Auxiliary Inc. has implemented a new guideline for students applying for scholarships.

Volunteer Coordinator Jim Childers told us about the changes.

Childers: “The guidelines are you have to be an auxilary member volunteering here at the hospital or you have to be have a guardian or parent that works at the hospital or Heritage Place.”

Childers said there are a couple of reasons for the new guidelines.

Childers: “One, they felt a lot of the money that has gone out in previous scholarships has really not come back to the community or the hospital. And two, with probably 70% of the revenue that is raised each year by the auxiliary coming from employees they felt that it would be good to support them as well as the hospital.”

He also said the new guidelines don’t exclude anybody.

Childers: “All of our scholarships are based on the premise that you are going for a medical degree and part of that generally would be that you volunteer at a hospital if you are seriously pursuing a medical degree. So if somebody was looking at doing that and wanted to be a recipient of the scholarship they would be able to apply to volunteer at the hospital.”

The Hospital Auxiliary will start accepting applications soon and the deadline will be July 1.
