Homer Bag Ban Set For October Vote

The City of Homer will vote on their one-year-old bag ban during this year’s October election. City Clerk Jo Johnson explains…

Johnson: “The Homer City Council decided not to have a special election and just let the proposition appear on the October 1st ballot.”

We asked Johnson what would happen with the ban in the meantime…

Johnson: “There is still the ban in effect on plastic bags until the election time, if it overturned, it would be after the election.”

The petition to repeal the plastic bag ban was brought by Homer resident Justin Arnold…

Arnold: “What I’m saying is that it’s not about the plastic bags. It’s about the government stepping into every aspect of our lives and controlling it. It’s plastic bags today, but what’s the next thing? The size of house we can live in? I mean, that’s the biggest polluter in the world, is our homes.”
