Historical Society Wants to Protect Kasilof Dunes

7/28/2010

The Kasilof Regional Historical Society and others continue to push for protection of the dunes along the beach at the mouth of the Kasilof River.  The Kenai Watershed Forum has also been involved with preservation of these dunes.  We spoke to Robert Ruffner of the Kenai Watershed Forum, Tuesday, about the preservation efforts.

He said the fencing would, in no way, impede access to the beach.  The fencing would be similar to the fencing put up at the Kenai River Personal Use Dipnet Fishery.  The Kasilof Regional Historical Society put a proposal forward that was funded by the State Legislature. Ruffner said the coalition is in the middle of the permitting process.  Seventeen different groups and entities have come together for this restoration work.
