High Winds Knock Out Local Power

Widespread outages in the local area affected residents in the Soldotna-Homer area last Friday and on Saturday hit Nikiski.

Melissa Carlin with Homer Electric Association said the problems were weather-related…

Carlin: “Most of the outages were caused by trees on the lines, due to the wind. The Funny River area went out early in the morning Saturday morning and was restored a couple hours later. The largest outage was out in the Nikiski area, about 8:12am Saturday, and that was restored about 11:30 that morning.”

Carlin said that residents should prepare for outages when there are high winds by protecting sensitive electronic equipment.
