The K-Beach High Water Drainage Task Force met Monday night to discuss progress on the Seventh Street Water Conveyance Project.
Hydrogeologist Jim Munter gave an update…
Munter: “The full plan permit applications were made, both to DNR for a temporary water use authorization and also to the Kenai River Center to go through the multi-agency review process that they have set up there. And there’s been no comprehensive response, there’s been a few issues that have come up that have been addressed but neither of those processes is complete yet.”
He said that there was also significant discussion about identifying the top streets which culverts might be put into but would not negatively impact the other streets or flooding areas.
Out of the six originally designated, the number one area was designated as the Lori Jo and Scott intersection and Munter has written a letter to the Department of Natural Resources requesting support to implement a culvert there.
Munter said that David Schade with DNR, a representative with the Department of Conservation, and Assembly members Brent Johnson, Stan Welles, and Kelly Wolf were present at the meeting; however, despite another invitation, borough administration representatives were not present.
At every meeting attendees are asked if they are interested in becoming part of the task force and Munter said this time the assembly’s K-Beach representative Wolf became the newest member.
Munter: “And it was put to a vote and he was voted onto the task force unanimously so I think that’s a big step, we’re very happy to have Kelly work with us. The intent of the task force is to get all of the affected parties, all the stakeholders into a room to talk about all the various problems and come up with solutions.”
