Homer Electric Association is continuing their Independent Light project, the project aimed at generating all power locally beginning in 2014. One major piece of that project has been the new Nikiski Combined Cycle Generation Plant. HEA’s Joe Gallagher told us that Homer Electric Crews will be conducting tours of the new facility this afternoon

Gallagher: “We will be conducting tours of Homer Electric’s new generation plant in Nikiski. It’s an opportunity for the public to get a first hand look  at this very exciting project which has been under construction for about a year and a half. The tours will take place from 1:00pm to 4:30pm, and the public again is welcome attend, there is no need to sign up prior to the tours. If you are able to show up, again between 1:00pm to 4:30pm, we will be having tours on a regularly scheduled basis, and again, an opportunity to get a real good explanation and view of our new generation plant.”

Crews are limiting the tours to individuals 18-years-old or older, and asked that those planning to participate to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
