As we’d reported, a large number of Homer Electric members were without power for about 20-minutes this morning following a problem at Chugach Electric’s Southcentral Power Project in Anchorage.
Chugach outlined the issues by saying, the Southcentral Power Project tripped offline at 7:58 a.m. today. The loss of 130 megawatts of generation caused load shedding by various utilities to ensure the interconnected system remained stable and largely energized. Other generating units were started and power is being restored to customers. The outages are expected to be over by 8:40 a.m. The cause of the power plant outage is under investigation. Southcentral Power Project is a joint project between Chugach and ML&P.
The load shed affected approximately 4,600 HEA members in Fritz Creek, Homer, Anchor Point, Kasilof, Beaver Creek, and Nikiski.
HEA’s Joe Gallagher told us that power was restored to all HEA members by 8:20 am on Thursday.
