Homer Electric Association has partnered with Ocean Renewable Power Company to conduct studies on the potential of tidal power in Cook Inlet.
They deployed one hydrophone, a Directional Autonomous Seafloor Acoustic Recorder (DASAR), at the East Foreland on September 24th and recovered it on October 21st as a test deployment. Based on this success we deployed two DASARs on October 21st that will be recovered when the winter ice goes out, probably sometime in April.
The purpose of the DASARs is to listen for beluga whale and other marine mammal vocalizations to determine if they utilize the proposed project area. This work is funded by a grant to ORPC from the federal Department of Energy.
