Halibut Season Gearing up to Open

The Halibut Season is set to open this weekend, one week later than usual. We spoke to NOAA’s Julie Speegle, as the federal agency is putting the regulatory recommendations of the International Pacific Halibut Commission into effect …

Speegle: “So charter anglers in area 2C and area 3A will basically operate under the same management measures as they did last year. So in Area 3A, Central Alaska, that means 2 fish of any size per person daily bag limit. And in Area 2C, Southeast Alaska, charter anglers will continue to observe a reverse slot limit just as they did last year, and they have a one-fish per day, per person bag limit.”

The halibut season will open on Saturday March 23rd, at 12:00pm.
