Governor Sean Parnell signed an administrative order establishing the Municipal Advisory Gas Project Review Board for the Alaska LNG Project.
Mayor Mike Navarre had previously explained why the boroughs wanted to have input into the process.
Mayor Navarre: “All we were asking for was to participate in how they are going to set up a PILT. If they are changing the tax base and changing the tax structures we need to be able to calculate what our revenues might be so that we can deal with the impacts related to a major project like that both in the construction time frame and after it’s built.”
Mayor Navarre and mayors from five other boroughs to be affected by the LNG Project met with Gov. Parnell yesterday.
The board being established will include those six mayors, three state commissioners or their designees, two public members outside those boroughs, and a member from an organization representing municipal interests.
Some responsibilities of the board will include reviewing available information, holding public hearings, making recommendations to minimize financial impact on communities near the project, and recommending any needed changes to property tax statutes related to a natural gas project.
