Governor Proposes Downsized Overall Government

During Governor Bill Walker’s State of the Budget address in Juneau he kept his word that no areas were off limits in the anticipated cuts.

 

In light of the multibillion-dollar budget deficit, Walker proposed for his office to have 11% less staff than prior administrations and has asked commissioners to show a 5 – 8% reduction in each department.

 

He also addressed education.

 

 

Walker continued to tout Medicaid expansion.

 

 

Overall the governor said he will propose a $550-million cut in general funding from last year.
