Government Shut-Down Looms, Murkowski Eyes Military

Unless a funding bill is passed by the federal government by September 30, the nation is set to face further sequestration. Republicans and Democrats are yet to agree on Obamacare in the budget.

We recently spoke to U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski…

Sen. Murkowski (R-AK): “It is important that we be doing all that we can to reduce our spending and do so wisely. We’ve got a $16.8 trillion debt. We’ve got to acknowledge that and we’ve got to address it, but my concern with sequestration is that it is a very blunt instrument. It is indiscriminate across-the-board cuts.”

Senator Murkowski focused on military funding, saying she didn’t want budget cuts to hurt America’s ability to defend itself…

Sen. Murkowski (R-AK): “We don’t  do damage to our investments. We don’t  do damage to the men and women that are serving us and providing for our defense.”

If a bill isn’t passed, the debt ceiling could collapse as soon as October 18.
