Today Governor Bill Walker and Lt. Governor Byron Mallott released the reports compiled by the 17 transition committees, several of which had local Kenai Peninsula residents.
Ricky Gease was on the fisheries transition team…
Gease: “The first one was a clear fish first policy for Alaska, the second was prioritizing and improving fisher access for Alaskans, the third one was looking at funding for ADF&G and fish science, the fourth one was talking about process involving science over politics in making conservation decisions and then the fifth one was looking at fishery management as much as possible being locally based and adaptive. So those were the five priority areas that we looked at.”
Within each one of those categories the team discussed success elements needed, barriers to the successes were investigated and possible actions to overcome were brainstormed.
There were 25 people from across the state on the fisheries committee and Gease said he hopes the recommendations are taken into consideration.
