Good Samaritan Detects Stolen Handgun

Posted: March 19, 2013 at 4:32 pm

A local family is thankful a Good Samaritan followed up an Alaskalist posting that sounded fishy.

Proof that Alaskans will take care of one another, the unidentified Sterling resident saw a post on Alaskalist for a handgun, which seemed too good to be true. He obtained the serial number and contacted State Troopers, who confirmed the gun had been reported missing in Talkeetna in 2011.

The resident set up a meeting in Sterling with the gun trader, and confronted the man. At this point, the guilty party handed over the gun and walked away. The Sterling man then brought the gun to State Troopers on March 12, who reunited it with its owners.

The gun was identified as a family heirloom, passed down from a grandparent.

How stupid of the Troopers not to covertly go along with the Sterling resident and detain/interview the gun trader.

How stupid to comment on something you know nothing about. He only confirmed the gun was stolen, the report never said they were involved in an investigation.
