Nikiski is at the center of the proposed LNG Pipeline Project in more than one way.
The northern Kenai Peninsula has been named the lead site for the pipeline terminus, and this week Nikiski’s State Senator Cathy Giessel has taken up the issue of state ownership.
Giessel chairs the Senate Resources Committee and said she supports equity ownership by the State of Alaska. Giessel cites an independent study, authorized by the Department of Natural Resources, which found quity ownership would bring the greatest financial benefit to Alaskans.
Giessel said: “LNG projects are capital intensive, complex, multi-stakeholder investments. How a project is structured and how risk and reward are allocated can make or break a project.” She said that equity ownership would bring the state closer to reliable and affordable gas for all residents.
